Slink Jewellery: Pearls with a twist

If you read this blog often you probably know that I love a great piece of jewellery. A bold pair of earrings or a statement necklace can take an outfit from drab to fab instantly and one size always fits all!

I discovered luxe jewellery brand Slink a few years ago when I spotted their chic designs on celebrities such as Sienna Miller and Nichole Richie. Soon after I met their designer, an equally stylish Hong Kong girl by the name of Kiran Bharwani. I immediately fell in love with her Oriental Cutwork series of geometric  earrings – a line of solid gold hoops featuring intricate cutouts and Oriental inspired motifs for a contemporary look.

Well after a brief hiatus, Slink is back! This time round Bharwani has moved away from her signature gold earrings and designed a collection of big necklaces instead. Considering that bold necklaces were a huge hit on the spring/summer catwalks, it seems she is on the right track. The line features softer materials such as pearls (including fresh water, Tahitian and South Sea pearls) which she has mixed in with semi-precious stones, diamonds, silver beads, velvet and silk for a cool look. The necklaces remind me of Alber Elbaz’s tulle covered pearls from a few seasons ago – they are modern, wearable and extremely versatile. There are also a few classic pairs of earrings that are great for everyday.

“Although this collection is still very young, its definitely more for the woman than the girl. I guess it’s aging with us! I think pearls are back. People are tired of all the fuss and want to go back to something natural and pure.” says Bharwani.
The collection is available at an exclusive trunk show today along with a limited edition collection of earrings designed in collaboration with fashion designer Nathan Jenden which appeared in his last catwalk show. It features feminine and strong shapes modelled on popular motifs such as fans and palm trees, embellished with white topaz and sapphires.  For die hard fans, some pieces from the Oriental collection are also available.
