Celebrities dabbling in fashion seems to have hit Asia in a big way. We just got word that Faye Wong’s stylist Titi Kwan will be launching his first fashion collection in Paris next week (watch this space – we will give you a sneak peak after the launch!) and popular songwriter and style icon Wyman Wong is opening another pop-up fashion store with hip local retailer I.T on Friday (23rd September).
Called YI.T, Wong will take over the brand’s 3,000 square foot Central store for two weeks and deck it out with his favourite fashion finds . It’s all about drop dead gorgeous gowns and modern cocktail wear from designers like Iris Van Herpen, Amaya Arzuaga and British designer Roksanda Ilincic. Men can choose from up and coming names such as Walter Van Beirendonck and J.W Anderson. There are also accessories including limited edition and numbered book clutches by Paris-based Olympia Le Tan.
We managed to pin down Wong to get the lo-down on his latest project.
Why did you decide to open another pop-up shop with I.T?
I love fashion and I also love shopping for others. Hong Kong is the city of dreams for fashion labels, but despite its variety, there are still some very good brands missing. The initial setup of YI.T was to fill the missing “gaps” among the fashion labels. Whether the brand is too new or simply not as common, there are fabulous designers that Hong Kong should come to know.
What is it about fashion that you love the most?
Everything. There is an ocean of options and the creativity is simply endless.
Which brands are your favourite from the new store?
I love all of them. I cannot point out a single brand, as they are equally attractive to me. For example, J.W Anderson offers an elegant, modern and young mood, while Amaya Arzuaga has a plenty of affordable party dresses to-die-for.
What was your criteria for choosing what brands to feature?
Aesthetics. I am quite confident in my judgment when it comes to the “look” of the piece. Aside from that, I also consider if the brand is well-known here. As mentioned previously, I want to use YI.T as the bridge for bringing in new and uncommon brands.
What’s next for you in the fashion world?
We are planning something for for SS12, but it’s not 100 per cent confirmed yet.
What was the hardest part about being a fashion buyer?
YI.T opens tomorrow until October 2. Find it at Shop B1, Basement, 10 Ice House Street, Central, Hong Kong, tel: +852 2147 5077.
