SS12: Accessories Report

Goodies from Roger Vivier (above).

What woman doesn’t love accessories especially shoes and handbags? For spring/summer 2012 trends on the catwalk included chunky platforms (I loved Dries Van Noten’s wrap-around ribbon versions), mules, wedges, colour, gold (Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton had actual pieces of gold on their styles) and handheld bags (Celine’s hobo was top of my list). Off the catwalks, luxury accessories brands held private presentations to show their latest offerings. Here are my top picks.

This is Bruno Frisoni’s strongest season yet with an African inspired line that featured weathered tan sandals with kitten heels, along with eclectic clutches decorated with beads and leopard print mixed with polka dots.  My favourite was the Prismick collection with its 3D look which appeared on cool clutches and sexy T-bar sandals and pumps in yellow and white. Leighton Meester agreed with me because while I was there she was cooing over the flats! There was also plenty of colour-blocking with a Mondrian-inspired palette on chunky platforms. Another series of bags was made from specially treated leather so they resembled metal sculptures.

If I could only buy one pair of shoes next season it would be the statement tribal print wedges made from canvas, leather and grosgrain and which are bang on trend. Sanderson also used unconventional materials such as mesh and cork, the latter of which appeared on an ankle strap sandal in the front, while the back came in different colours of cut-out suede. The flats were also standouts – suede is worked into leather tubes decorated with mirrored gold tabs which wind around the foot. Beautiful!

City essentials from Hogan x Karl lagerfeld (above)

For his third collection with Hogan, the Kaiser went for his usual urban palette of black, white and grey which is great for HK city girls. I liked the pleated leather tote and clutch which came with a faded look. For something more fun and fashion forward, there were bags in leather with a quilted bubble pattern in black, white or bronze. As a girl who loves her ballet flats, I was partial to the patent ballerina flats embellished with floral patterned perforations.
