Prada’s new jewellery collection (above)
For someone who has a general aversion to bling, it seems ironic that this is my second post in a week about the topic. However it is the holiday season and we tend to indulge in things that we’d normally avoid the rest of the year so I am making an exception. Besides I have been thinking about Prada’s new jewellery collection since I saw it on the spring runways so I had to share it with you now that it’s finally in stores.
Before you think that I am endorsing all types of bling for the party season then you are wrong. Prada’s collection is an exception because the designs are cool renditions of antique jewellery making them that more covetable (and the only type of bling worth wearing). Crystal drop earrings dangle from flowered studs that are made from coloured patent leather for an unexpected look. Faux-antique necklaces, chokers and bracelets are decorated with gobstopper sized crystals. Everything looks super chic but is playful and fashionable at the same time.
Of course with prices ranging from HK$2,950 to HK$14,500, Prada’s collection isn’t exactly affordable. If you have access to vintage stores where you live then it’s worth checking them out for the real thing. In Paris I always shop at Karry O and have also found some cool pieces at Somewhere in Time (63 Peel Street, Soho, Central), here in Hong Kong.
Another go-to favourite is Kenneth Jay Lane, who has some gorgeous antique-inspired cuffs and earrings that are reminiscent of the Art Deco period at unbeatable prices. Also check out Swarovski which collaborates with hip designers including Paris-based designer Helene Zubeldia.
Prada is at Alexandra House, Central, Hong Kong, tel: +852 2522 2989.
