Eddie Borgo Spring/Summer 2012 collection
As much as I love delicate diamond jewellery, I prefer to go bold with statement costume pieces. I have always been attracted to chunky styles with clean, geometric lines which is why I have become a huge fan of American designer Eddie Borgo. Borgo loves a bit of rock ‘n’ roll and you can immediately see that in his work. That being said they also have a strong urban feel (he cites New York City as inspiration), making them cool and contemporary.
Borgo studied art and costume theory before moving to New York in 1998. He started out in the jewellery business in 2002 by making one-off pieces for stylists including Patti Wilson and Camilla Nickerson, but it was his gig designing jewellery for Phillip Lim’s spring/summer 2009 runway show that really put him on the map. He launched his own line soon after and has since collaborated with the likes of Proenza Schouler and Jason Wu, while also winning the CFDA Accessories Designer Award last year.
His spring/summer collection has just landed in stores and references symbols from the occult. If you are imagining Voodoo dolls then think again – instead he has choosen stars, hearts and arrows and given them an urban edge in a series of cool cuffs (which resemble lace), wrap around rings and necklaces. Everything is made from solid brass and then powder coated in matte black, white and lavender for a cool effect.
