Tan-tastic from (top left, clockwise): J.Crew skinny belt, Mulberry Del Rey bag, Rupert Sanderson wedges, Ancient Greek Sandals and Jil Sander clutch.
So a few years ago everyone became obsessed with nude shoes and bags. While a pair of nude pumps are essential in any wardrobe (their leg lengthening properties are beyond genius!), I am all about tan accessories this season.
Although nude blends seamlessly with any other colour, tan has a warmth to it that I love – it’s a richer, bolder colour with a cool vintage vibe. Plus it’s easier to match compared with nude which can run the risk of making you look washed out if you don’t buy the right shade. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought a nude item and then realised that the colour was wrong when I examined it in broad daylight. With tan, especially items made from grainy saddle leather, the colour darkens over time making it all the more chic.
And it looks fantastic with white!
So without further adieu, here are my top pick of must-have tan items this summer that you will wear year after year.
Hebe wedges by Rupert Sanderson
I bought these in London since I am off heels for a while and absolutely love them. The criss-cross front is flattering, and the wood wedge gives it a summery, fresh feel. Pair it with a shirt dress or slim capris.
Skinny leather belt in English Saddle by J. Crew
I’m all about skinny belts this summer and I was thrilled when I spotted this version from J Crew (who by the way, have started shipping to Hong Kong). You can match it with a dress or wear it with a beautiful silk shirt for a cool look.
Flat sandals by Ancient Greek Sandals
Aurevoir K.Jacques, this year is all about Ancient Greek Sandals, who apparently made the sandals for Hermes once upon a time. Editors everywhere have been talking about their cool styles and super soft leather, me included.
Del Rey bag by Mulberry
Mulberry debuted their new shape (inspired by Lana Del Rey, nonetheless) on the autumn/winter runways and it finally hits stores this month. I love the retro shape, which is made all the more cooler by Mulberry’s grainy natural leather. This one is a keeper for sure, if you can get your hands on it!
Leather Pyramid clutch by Jil Sander
I’m a sucker for anything geometric. This Jil Sander “clutch” is a cool alternative to your usual envelope styles and will probably hold a lot more. It’s also casual enough for the day, making it useful when you are travelling.
PS. If you can get it, Celine’s classic box bag in tan is also a real winner!
