Necklaces from Joomi Lim’s London Calling collection (above)
Move over Tom Binns, the latest jewellery brand we have our eyes on is Joomi Lim. I first spotted it on a fashion editor friend who was wearing a super cool neon yellow and black fringe necklace that was both irreverent and chic at the same time.
Founded in New York in 2009, the brand is the brainchild of husband and wife team Joomi Lim and Xavier Ricolfi. Known for their playful yet edgy designs, the look is part daring, part punk, but with a feminine twist making it perfect for fashionistas.
Joomi is actually from Seoul and began her career as a make-up artist styling high-profile clients with her own jewellery. Her label was such a success that she sold it, packed up and moved to the US where she started working for Victoria’s Secret. She decided to return to jewellery when she met her husband Xavier, who is an industrial designer who previously worked with the likes of Philippe Starck. There’s nothing quite like a romantic backstory to get you to love a brand even more!
The autumn/winter collection has some really fun pieces that will work with autumn’s bejewelled trend. Each one mixes different materials in irreverent, haphazard ways – like crystal gems with sleek titanium and spikes with pearls – making them modern works of art. My top picks include the mod titanium cuffs with cutouts and the pearl and spike necklaces from the London Calling collection.
