The new Gold Collection by Rupert Sanderson (above)
Who needs a red sole when you have a gilded gold heel?
It’s no secret that my shoe wardrobe is dominated by Rupert Sanderson, so I was very excited when I heard that the brand would be launching a special collection in Hong Kong and China this June.
Earlier this week a group of select editors were invited to the unveiling of the collection, which is actually the brainchild of the brand’s Asian partner Bertrand Mak. Bertrand is continually working on new ways to create exclusive styles for his customers– last year he launched the Hong Kong shoe which was especially tailored to fit Asian women, so I was curious to see what he had up his sleeve next.
The new collection is actually inspired by one of Sanderson’s previous styles – which I actually own – that features gold leaf decoration. Bertrand took this idea one step further and decided to transform more than 10 of the brand’s signature styles with 23K gold leaf for a luxe take on the original.
While it may sound a bit Vegas, it’s not. The results are understated and chic thanks to the subtle placing of the gold leaf on different parts of the shoe (every pair is made by hand by trained artisans at the brand’s factory in Bologna, Italy). There are over 10 styles to choose from ranging from platforms to flats, with each style available in several colours options ranging from classics like nude and beige to the more fashionable lilac and red. I have my eye on the Inferno – a black nappa bootie with a gold stiletto heel. It will be perfect for next season.
Hot styles include (from top left clockwise): the Cecil in nude, Estelle, Hong Kong in tulle and Nashville in red patent
The collection will launch in the boutique today and is also available online.
