Alexander McQueen arrives in Hong Kong
October is officially fashion month in Hong Kong with designers flocking to town including the J.Crew team, Olivier Rousteing from Balmain, Giuseppe Zanotti and the Proenza Schouler boys. It also seems to be the month of openings, as we continue to live up to our reputation as the shopping mecca of Asia.
First up for guys is the reopened Dior Homme boutique in Harbour City. In keeping with the brand’s cool image, the boutique is decked out in black and white mirrors with a new open plan layout covering two floors. Inside expect the brand’s ready-to-wear, evening and suit collection designed by Kris Van Assche (thankfully not Hedi Slimane who has been experiencing plenty of scandals since his debut at Saint Laurent Paris).

I was also super excited to discover the Alexander McQueen boutique at Elements. This is the brand’s first freestanding store in the city (they opened their first in China earlier this year) and is one of three boutiques designed around a new concept conceived by Alexander McQueen and Sarah Burton. It’s very McQueen with a feeling of rough luxury – the walls are covered in lacquered linen, while gilded mirrors and moulded plaster panels that feature wings, shells and leaves add to the surreal look. The best bit is that the store will carry everything from catwalk pieces and ready-to-wear to accessories.
