TOMS customised by local artists including (left to right): Julia Chang, Jin Meyerson, James Jean and Prodip
This summer TOMS replaced espadrilles as the must-have footwear. When I was in New York everyone from young kids to hipsters were spotted wearing these simple canvas slip-ons.
What many people don’t know is that TOMS is more than just a “cool” brand. Founded in 2006 by Blake Mycoskie, its mission has always been to give back to the community. For every pair of shoes it sells, a pair is given to a child in need under its non-profit affiliate Friends of TOMS. This concept also applies to its eyewear (so for each pair sold, TOMS will help give sight to a person in need).
To launch TOMS’ latest styles for autumn, Lane Crawford has decided to get into the charitable spirit by launching the “Style Your Sole” event every weekend until November 18. Visitors are encouraged to customise their own pair of TOMS with the help of an artist from Savannah College of Art and Design. Meanwhile, they’ve also invited a selection of international and local artists to create their own unique pair which will later be auctioned to benefit the Changing Young Lives Foundation.
It’s a great way to do a good deed and update your accessories closet.
Visit “Style Your Soul” at Lane Crawford IFC Mall from every Saturday and Sunday (12pm to 6pm) from October 13 to November 18. www.toms.com
