While we are all aware that the Chinese have an incessant thirst for luxury brands, it seems that the contemporary market is gaining momentum. Derek Lam proved this yesterday when he chose Shanghai rather than New York to launch his resort collection for his diffusion line, 10 Crosby. A party, NY style, was held at Unico restaurant on the Bund together with  Shopbop.com, which launched its Chinese site last year.

10 Crosby was originally launched last year and is named after the location of Derek’s headquarters. It has a cool, downtown vibe when compared to Derek’s main collection – the man himself says that it’s about “sophisticated, crisp clothes for women who love fashion and also appreciate classic style with slight twists on fabrics and silhouettes.” Everything is easy to wear and perfect for the woman on the go who are also fashion conscious.

I like the fact that many of the designs are quite playful. The new resort 2013 collection features keepers like the half leather, half denim T-shirt which is top of my wish list. I’m also liking the play on spring/summer’s head-to-toe matchy theme. To give it a new twist, Derek has contrasted patterns and colours for a fun look (hello colourful 1990s tartans!)
