JOYCE by Romeo Gigli spring/summer 2013 collection
Last season Hong Kong retailer JOYCE made headlines when they announced their groundbreaking collaboration with legendary Italian designer Romeo Gigli (we broke the news about the line before it landed in stores). The talented designer had been in fashion hiding for many years so industry insiders were excited to see what the veteran had up his sleeve. The result was pure Gigli – poetic and romantic – but infused with a new modern edge that I loved.

It seems a similar vibe permeates the second instalment, which has just been released for spring/summer 2013. The women’s collection features Gigli’s signature airy silhouettes (jackets and skirts balloon around the body) thanks to fabrics like paper-like silk and tulle. Skirts come veiled in lace or with embroideries like tulle leaves for a modern Wuthering Heights feel. Pink is contrasted with navy and black for a play on high fashion and femininity.

The men’s collection meanwhile is perfect for modern Dandys with its patterned jackets and metallic suits. An artistic touch can be seen in separates decorated with brushstrokes, smudges, stripes and lace details.
Styles from the men’s line
As with the first collection, JOYCE has created an exclusive lookbook shot by renowned Paris-based photographer Thomas Devaux for the launch. The models include familiar faces such as upcoming Chinese models Nan Fu Long and Wang Shiqing (Lela), Chinese artist Zhou Yi and fashion editors Tang Shuang and Tamu McPherson.
