Ok so I have to say this year’s Oscars was probably the dullest red carpet ever (and as I type I am also watching Seth McFarlane, who is proving to be the worst host ever).  Many celebs went for minimalist shapes  – the strapless ballgown made a comeback – while gold embroidery and black and white were hot trends.

So many of the dresses lacked any kind of excitement, except for maybe Naomi Watts whose futuristic Giorgio Armani dress was both edgy yet elegant (I love the shoulder cut-out detail).  Sally Field was another favourite in a  sheer red long sleeved vintage Valentino dress.  Jennifer Garner surprised me with her choice – a  purple Gucci Premiere gown with an elegant ruffled back.

Jennifer Lawrence wore Dior (surprise, surprise). It was a chic, simple number in a light shade of pink made from a crumpled fabric for a modern touch. Anne Hathaway also chose a pink Prada number but there was something going on with the boob area (a case of darts gone bad). Reese Witherspoon was also having boob issues in her blue and black Louis Vuitton dress. Jennifer Aniston’s folded neckline on her strapless red Valentino gown was a much better fit.

For some actresses it was a case of deja vous. I like Salma Hayek’s black and gold McQueen number but it looked like a rip off of Kate Hudson’s from the SAG Awards.  And is it just me, or is Charlize Theron Single White Female-ing Anne Hathaway? She debuted a new pixie haircut and a white Dior Couture two-piece that reminded me of Anne’s Chanel outfit at the SAG Awards.

The Worst Dressed (from left to right): Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry and Fan Bing Bing

Octavia Spencer looks like she lost weight in a white gown with a draped tulle neckline. Amy Adams puffball Princess-style Oscar de la Renta gown was too fairytale.  Halle Berry (wearing Versace) looks like a Star Trek reject although I guess I should at least give her props for trying to incorporate a spring/summer trend.  Nicole Kidman also overdosed on the sequins with her L’Wren Scott dress (maybe she’s been living in the Nashville too long?) Fan Bing Bing’s purple origami Marchesa number looked like it totally overwhelmed her.

So who were your favourites??

Agreed this yr was horribly dull! I thought Charlize looked great, so did Kelly Rowland. Sally Field surprised me and Adele looked great during performance! But yeh, all was dull & unsurprising and Fan Bing Bing looked horrible, completely unfit for that Marchesa gown! ew ew ew!

I thought Seth McFarland was awesome. What was there not to like about him?
