Smythson’s first Hong Kong store
OK, so I know Smythson isn’t technically categorised as a fashion brand, but I was still excited to learn that the British stationers was opening their first boutique in Hong Kong (I have been using their leatherbound notebooks and notecards for years!) Located at Pacific Place it’s their first store in Asia, and to celebrate they held a cocktail last week that was attended by the British Prime Minister’s wife, Samantha Cameron, who also happens to be their creative consultant.
To coincide with their 125th anniversary, they also flew in some amazing pieces from the Smythson archives including accessories like the Bond Street handbag, which reminds me of a doctors bag. With its structured shape, battered leather and gold hardware it still looks modern today.

I also learnt that Smythson has been dabbling in fashion accessories. They recently unveiled a capsule collection designed in collaboration with British designer Jonathan Saunders including leather briefcases and laptop cases. Highlights for next season also include the 1887 tricolored tote and leather bracelets for women.
But what really caught my eye was the collection of clutches. Styles range from the practical pouch in the brand’s classic leather to the uber stylish envelope clutch which comes in a range of colours and exotic skins. The style everyone was talking about that evening however was a limited edition clutch with a Chinese inspired vintage lock that is inspired by an archive piece from 1908. It is updated by Smythson’s design director, Rory O’Hanlon in red python (only eight pieces are available) and purple buffalo leather. Its way better than a notebook don’t you think?
