I don’t know why, but everything Alber Elbaz creates puts a big smile on my face. This season is no exception thanks to his collection of “cool” accessories (pardon the pun).
At the Lanvin fall/winter 2013 show in Paris, he sent models down the runway in a series of must-have jewels and belts emblazoned with words like “Cool,” “Help” and “Love” in his handwriting (natch). Editors couldn’t get their names on the waiting lists fast enough!
The punk-meets-baroque collection, which is now available in stores, includes a series of necklaces and rings spelling out the words in gold ribbon for a chic but playful look. There are also more elaborate styles which feature colourful resin medallions embellished with different words. These are strung on either chains and pearls, or even on a series of cool belts. Like most Lanvin jewels, there are collectables.
The Nuit in gold lacquered wood
The Beyond bag collection is just as covetable and is inspired by an evening bag design created by Jeanne Lanvin in the 1950s. My favourite includes the Nuit, an Art Deco inspired box clutch with a cabochon clasp. It comes in several materials including dark leather or for something more unique, gold lacquered wood (this is a style that people will always notice!) The Le Jour is also quite tempting and is a cross between a portfolio and shoulder bag and comes with an adjustable leather strap, bold gold zipper and plenty of compartments.
