Not matter how much we are against the “it” bag phenomenon, we always get asked which handbag a woman should invest in every season. Rather than go for a trendy style, you can’t go wrong with classic, understated and luxe styles like Tod’s Sella, or Louis Vuitton’s Sofia Coppola.
The latest to hit our radars is Paris-based designer, Myriam Schaefer. While you may not recognise her name you probably already own one of her creations. Before she started her own line, she worked for Balenciaga designing best-sellers like the multi-zip city.
Last year she decided to break out on her own with a small but well-edited line of leather handbags, which have already garnered fans like Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Watts.
The look is minimalist but screams luxury. Rather than go flashy, Schaefer is obsessive over details from the raised arrow-shaped handles which are super comfortable to use, to the bright saffron leather linings inspired from the 19th century purses and printed serial numbers (a trick used in Haute Couture). Then of course comes function – designed with the modern woman in mind, each bag is lightweight with a solid construction for an elegant look. Everything is made using the finest leathers in Italy, so the look is polished yet super chic.

Highlights include the soft yet structured Joyce with its contrasting handles, and the Flag bag made from black calf leather and detailed with a colourful textile ribbons. It’s tres chic, n’est pas?
