I am always on the lookout for the perfect tuxedo jacket. While many brands have their own versions (Stella McCartney and Lanvin are my current favourites), there are few designers out there that still craft their jackets by hand while paying attention to every single detail from the seams to the buttons.
And then I discovered French brand Pallas. The company has only just launched its first retail line, but it’s better known as one of Paris’ most respected couture ateliers. Opened in 1961, the maison has collaborated with luxury houses such as Balenciaga, Karl Lagerfeld and Celine and is known for its razor sharp tailoring.
This season they are launching their first capsule collection based on Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic Le Smoking silhouette and the results are gorgeous. Pallas’ creations are as close to couture as you can get with each piece cut by hand and assembled by one tailor from start to finish.
The collection features seven glamorous yet edgy silhouettes from jackets to trousers, and was designed and inspired by Belgian model Hannelore Knuts, who is also a favourite of Azzedine Alaia. Available in classic colours (mainly black, navy and white), highlights include the backless halter neck waistcoat and iconic tuxedo jacket. My favourites are the sexy tailored jumpsuit and the cropped tuxedo jacket which is a modern spin on the classic Le Smoking.
Prices may be closer to couture but these are definitely an investment!
