Not many fashion editors will admit it, but I love flats more than heels. For me, the holy grail of fashion is finding the perfect pair of flats. If you read this blog regularly you will know my favourites include Roger Vivier, Chanel and Saint Laurent’s new Dance collection. But if you are looking for something more affordable, then check out Pretty Ballerinas, which just opened its first store in Hong Kong.
Pretty Ballerinas may not be designer but I’d compare it to brands like French Sole and Repetto. The brand was launched online in 2005 and now has over 80 boutiques worldwide and a client list that boasts Kate Moss, Olivia Palermo, Angelina Jolie, Kate Middleton and Kylie Minogue. What gives it credibility however is the fact that it is a division of Mascaro, which is a renowned family of manufacturers based in Menorca, Spain. As such their shoes are all about quality – the leather is super soft and the soles are sturdy, and won’t fall apart easily (something I’ve noticed with brands like Repetto).
What really sets them apart however are the variety of styles, shapes and colours they offer. Yes they have your classic round toe ballerina, but if you are looking to update your flat wardrobe with something more fashion forward then this place is for you. For spring/summer 2014 for instance they have a new pointy toe style updated with vinyl (very on trend) while the classic ballerina comes with geometric and leopard prints.
Who said flats had to be boring?
