The Guzel from Kotur’s first shoe collection
We’ve always been a fan of Kotur not only because we love supporting local talent (designer and founder Fiona Kotur is based in Hong Kong) but because her designs strike the perfect balance between whimsical and chic.
So you can imagine our excitement when we leant that one of our favourite handbag designers was launching her first collection of shoes. Although the debut line is small – only three styles are available – they definitely make a statement. In fact if you are looking for a pair of classic heels then stop reading now. Instead Kotur has gone all out and brought back the fun to fashion with styles inspired by both the exotic and fantastical.
One of my favourites is the Gilda, a Grecian inspired sandal covered in leaves made from gold snakeskin that trails up the front of the foot for a sexy look. The Guzel meanwhile captures spring’s tribal trend with its boho mix of mirrors and silk tassels. Finally there is the Jardines sandal, which is an ode to nature with its colourful silk blooms.

Below is an exclusive interview with Fiona about the collection and why she can’t get enough of shoes (join the club!)
Why launch a shoe collection now?
Like the many vintage minaudieres I collect, there are shoes I have had for many decades that have seen me through good and bad, and that I still love and treasure. I think there is something special in being able to design shoes that carry a woman through her daily experiences.
Sum up the collection in one sentence…
Our debut collection evokes a sense of whimsy, bohemian chic and joyful expression.
What inspired your designs?
Kotur’s design aesthetic definitely carries over from our handbags to our shoes. We want to create special designs that our customers can cherish beyond one season. For our debut shoe collection, we drew inspiration from the spice markets of the medina, the beautiful embellishments of Turkish clothes and extraordinary desert colors.
Who is your shoe hero?
How can you pick a favourite child?
In your opinion a good shoe should…
Make you feel like you can conquer the world.
If you could choose one woman to wear your shoes who would it be?
Cate Blanchett – a true individual on the red carpet, I love the risks she takes.
Kotur shoes are best paired with …
Confidence, attitude and a shot of quirkiness.
