Backpacks from Kara Autumn/Winter 2014
Thanks to designers like Alexander Wang and Chanel, the most wanted bag for spring/summer 2014 is the backpack. But before you start toting around your old JanSport, bear in mind that it’s all about luxe styles made from high quality fabrics like leather.
Unfortunately not all of us can afford Chanel which is why we have found a chic alternative in the form of New York based label Kara, which was launched in 2012. Already spotted on style icons like Cara Delevigne and Susie Bubble, the brand was actually founded by Hong Konger and Parsons graduate, Sarah Law (she’s also a participant in the CFDA’s Incubator programme which supports emerging designers).

Kara is all about functional leather goods for the urban fashionista. The designs are minimalist with little hardware, but Sarah injects a fashion edge with cool fabrics and textures including her signature pebble leather and shearling. Other useful details including industrial molded zippers and expandable pockets.
What I’m loving however are her unique yet versatile shapes. The aforementioned Backpack comes with an edgy top zip, while another favourite, the Double Date, features a wraparound zip which allows you to expand the bag . I’m also loving the Dry bag which has adjustable handle so that it can be worn as a one shoulder backpack or a bucket bag. Each season the styles are updated in new colours and fabrics including teal and rust suede (expect metallic leathers for Resort 2015). The line also includes accessories such as wallets.
Going sporty has never looked so chic.
Kara is hosting a trunk show today (July 15) featuring her autumn/winter 2014 and resort 2015 collections from 12pm to 5pm at 8 Wa In Fong, Midlevels West, Hong Kong. www.KARAstore.com
