Dior’s Fusion sneakers
From chunky Isabel Marant high-tops to neon-hued Nikes, the statement sneaker has been trending for a while. The majority of styles on offer however have been more sporty and androgynous, leaving girls who prefer dresses over denim to admire them from afar.
Fortunately, the fashion powers-that-be took note and sent out much prettier versions on the couture runways. Now everyone out there is embellishing their kicks with feminine flounces.
Autumn is all about light, flirty and feminine styles, shaded in pastels, pinks, iridescent, whites and neutrals. They sparkle, they shine, and have tonnes of texture. Best of all, they aren’t too girly. Here are a few of our favourites and how we would wear them.
Fresh off the couture runways, Dior’s Fusion trainers are leaders of the pack. This super light slip-on style features embroidered sequins that mimic the house’s signature floral motifs. Pair it with a mix of prints – think stripes, polka dots or zebra – for an eclectic head-to-toe ensemble.
It doesn’t get much prettier than a cluster of tulle rosettes. Pokemaoke’s soft calfskin leather high-tops in shades of dusty rose will pair perfectly with a chiffon cardigan, sleeveless shell and straight-leg chinos, creating a decidedly feminine yet charmingly casual ensemble.
These Superga’s soften any outfit and are perfect for the weekend. Match them with a cool, layered ensemble consisting of a heather grey hoodie, oversized pastel blazer and a flouncy white cotton miniskirt. It may read hyper fashionable but it will feel oh-so-comfortable.
Chanel couture’s sneakers, created with Massaro, is where the trend really started. If Kaiser Karl approves, then you don’t have to ask twice. Chanel’s signature tweed is made less ladylike and more fashion forward thanks to this sporty style. Luxe touches include tulle laces and metallic silver trims, while other styles feature python and genuine pearls. Pair them with your mother’s vintage tweed suits for a thoroughly modern mash-up, or brides-to-be, dare to wear them à la Cara on the runway – with your wedding dress.
Explore your youthful, girly side in Casadei’s fuchsia glitter-coated sneakers, a special edition for Luisa via Roma. These come with both white tulle and regular cotton laces, so you can switch up your look. With loud accessories, we recommend keeping the silhouette clean and playing with colour. Our best match would be a royal purple or deep teal cashmere sweater and bright white jeans.
Outside of Dior, the Adidas by Raf Simons collection showcases the designer’s interest in technical fabrics, transforming the mundane into beautiful. Combining a pink and red jacquard floral print upper with a ‘Bounce’ technology sole, this shoe is a true work of art. With a simple white wrap dress and a boxy black leather tote, you’ll look chicer than ever.
