Since the whole casual chic/athleisure movement is here to stay, the Parka has now replaced the trench coat as the new outerwear essential. While many brands offer their own version, we have recently become obsessed with Italian label Mr & Mrs Italy which just opened its first boutique in Hong Kong.
Mr & Mrs Italy isn’t exactly new – it was launched in 2007 – but the brand has been having a fashion moment recently thanks to the fact that style icons like Rihanna and Cara Delevingne have been spotted in their designs.
And although they launch new collections inspired by US military attire each season – for spring there are old school tracksuits, bomber jackets and shirts covered in patches – it’s still their parkas that are generating all the buzz.
While most of the styles are made from cotton canvas in military colours like grey and khaki, it’s the luxe details that make them stand apart from the rest. Many styles are completely lined in fur (and are reversible) or come with fur trims in all colours of the rainbow from fuchsia to blue, making them a fashion statement in themselves. There are also cut and lined in a way that they don’t look bulky on the body making them chic and easy to travel with.
If you can’t say goodbye to the trenchcoat just yet, though, fear not. For spring/summer 2016 they have launched a new range of trenchcoats based on a model from the 1920s worn by British motorcycle messengers.
