It’s been a while since we’ve done a post on awards fashion but as it’s a new year, what better way to kick it off than with a rundown of the best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes 2016?
We read somewhere that modesty is back but we still had flashes of flesh (Jennifer Lawrence, Kirsten Dunst) which is still a hot trend. On the other end of the spectrum, some actresses opted for dresses with way too much fabric (trains, batwing sleeves, or ruffles – we’re looking at you Jane Fonda). For the most part, the outfits were, for a lack of a better word – boring.
There were some surprises for this year’s Best Dressed. Cate Blanchett never plays it safe and I loved her light pink Givenchy couture gown. Her Carol co-star Rooney Mara also went for a similar shade although her lingerie inspired Alexander McQueen number had a shredded effect. Newcomer Alicia Vikander was another favourite in a Louis Vuitton white sequinned gown with sheer vertical panelling. She’ll be one to watch. Jaimie Alexander from Blindspot also surprised in a graphic green gown with a plunging neckline.
Jennifer Lawrence perfectly accessorised her red Dior gown with a stunning diamond choker. We like the fact that Jennifer Lopez toned down the bling and went for a chic yellow Giambattista Valli couture gown and minimal jewels. She’s still got it. Tom Ford does little wrong in our eyes and although he was looking a little worse for wear, Lady Gaga looked elegant next to him in a Versace hourglass black dress. The jury is still out on Julianne Moore’s blue sequinned Tom Ford number which was lacklustre.
Now onto the disasters. Is it just us or does Cookie (Empire’s Taraji P. Henson) need to wear a pair of Spanx under her white Stella McCartney gown? Viola Davies obviously doesn’t realise that Christmas is over because she looks like a Christmas tree. Eva Longoria seems to have wrapped a kitchen towel around her waist. We are also having bad 1990s flashbacks looking at Kate Hudson– she looks like she’s working Sunset Blvd.
Lets hope things improve when the Oscars rolls around next month.
