Just in case you haven’t received the memo, the updated button down shirt is set to be the must-have item for spring/summer 2016. While every designer brand has their own version from Sacai to Roland Mouret, Les Animaux’s styles are also worth checking out for their unique silhouettes.
Making its debut in time for the spring/summer 2016 season, the London based brand was founded by designer Lisa Jackson. Lisa has been working in the industry for over 20 years with luxury brands across the globe including Viktor & Rolf where she worked on both the ready-to-wear and couture collections.
Les Animaux offers well-crafted daywear staples with an avant garde touch – think distorted shapes and oversized masculine silhouettes softened with feminine details such as ruffles or couture fabrics. Designed to be “seasonless” each style is versatile and well-crafted (garments are made in Italy and the UK in a series of small and exclusive ateliers).
The first collection features androgynous, mannish jackets, shirts and trousers made from a mixture of classic and innovative fabrics including lace and Japanese jersey. Dresses and tops have asymmetrical silhouettes making them edgy yet feminine, but we really love the cotton shirts which are dissected and reassembled to produce completely new shapes.
A white shirt for example features an askew collar and buttons trailing down the side for a chic topsy turvy look. A blue shirt comes with an off-kilter hem and buttons curving across the torso. For a cool take on the masculine/feminine look, there is a shirt/lace blouse hybrid.
