Off-White Spring/Summer 2017 Women’s Collection
Vetements may be the streetwear label du jour, but if you want the real deal then check out clothing brand Off-White. The brainchild of stylist and creative Virgil Abloh (who also happens to be Kanye West’s creative director), the brand was launched in 2013 and does everything Vetements claims to do – mainly taking streetwear and injecting it with a high fashion twist – but with more integrity (in our humble opinion).
Initially Off-White was dismissed by editors, but it’s finally getting the attention it deserves since Abloh was nominated for the LVMH Fashion Prize in 2015. The brand has become popular overnight, and has opened stores around the world including a new outpost in Hong Kong. Located a stone’s throw from luxury boutiques in the Central, the 746 square-foot space is designed by Abloh himself (he’s a trained architect) and features industrial elements such as concrete flooring and black metal rods on the ceiling that create a checkerboard effect.

The store is definitely worth a visit just to check out the collections, which explore more cerebral fashion territory such as branding and the expression of youth culture while playing with this concept of newness and relevance. The brand proposes an ironic take on fashion – its collections aren’t particularly groundbreaking but they are still extremely covetable, of-the-moment and make the wearer feel as though they belong to a cool tribe.
The men’s spring/summer collection is all about branding in the form of iconic patterns, prints and logos, which appear on signature knitwear and new additions such as the sheer organza T-shirt. Crossover items include sporty tops and footwear created by old school brand Umbro, while artist Brendan Fowler has added a colourful collage onto a hooded sweatshirt and jacket. The women’s styles are equally cool with more feminine elements this time round including pleats, high waists and off-the-shoulder silhouettes on sporty separates.
You’ll be hanging with the cool kids in no time.
