I get numerous requests from potential brides asking about where to shop for bridal gowns in Hong Kong. Two of my favourites are White Bridal and Central Weddings, but a new one to add to the list is the newly opened Glue.
Founded by a group of fashionistas, including celebrated make-up artist OnKi Lau, the concept behind the store is to provide a one-stop-shop where brides-to-be can find a fashionable gown, and have access to the city’s best fashion photographers and makeup artists (as the name suggests, they glue together everything you need in one convenient package).
What I find most interesting is the merchandise. Instead of the usual frothy creations, there are some super cool pieces for brides who want to express their individuality and make a fashion statement on their big day – think Bianca Jagger in her YSL tux. They have a wide selection of vintage gowns from the 1950s and 1970s that are sourced from flea markets cities such as London and New York, including Victorian styles made from lace (think Florence Welch). They also offer runway pieces from brands such as Comme des Garcons, John Galliano, Dries Van Noten, Yohji Yamamoto and Stella McCartney which, although not technically bridal gowns, can be styled to look that way. It’s a fresh new approach to bridal wear that is definitely needed in Hong Kong.
For those looking for something more traditional, they also offer brides the option to design their own dress which is then made in house.
Whatever you pick, it’s worth checking it out.
