House of Dagmar Spring/Summer collection (above)
During the Easter holidays I decided to take a stroll down Star Street in Wanchai – the area has really transformed in the past year thanks to its cool neighbourhood vibe and chic little boutiques, and I was excited to see what else was new (for you shopaholics, I will divulge my favourites in another post).
It was during my routine visit to Vie (the sister boutique of Vein) that I discovered a brand called House of Dagmar. I have always been attracted to the cool yet minimalist style of Scandinavian designers and Dagmar seems to have perfected the aesthetic to a T with its unconventional designs that have a touch of sophistication. What I really loved was the fact that everything looked so chic but was still comfortable and easy-to-wear.
As it turns out, the brand is not new and was founded in 2005 by three Swedish sisters who have had established careers in the fashion industry – one previously worked as a designer for Christian Lacroix while the other is an H&M vet. They describe their label as “arty chic,” thanks to its mix of hand crafted details and loose, fluid silhouettes. There’s also a strong Art Deco inspiration in their clean lines and architectural tailoring. Like most of the other labels in Vie, it’s all about quality and attention to detail, whether it was in the form of frayed edges, great fabric selection, couture draping or modern cuts.
The spring/summer collection has some beautiful pieces that are perfect for women that are looking for styles that are breezy yet chic. My favourites include the printed one shoulder red maxi-dress which is fabulous for the summer and the Farah wrap dress in navy and black which features a sheer overlay and trims. There was also a V-neck beige dress with XL folds in the front that’s on my wish list. Get there soon as everything is selling out fast!
Dagmar is available exclusively at Vie, St Francis Yard, Wanchai, tel: 2804-1038 or online at Asos.
