Our top picks (from top left clockwise): Orange shades by Chanel, Neon yellow shades by Matthew Williamson, America Sunglasses by Super Sunglasses and Illesteva Mademoiselle round-frame acetate sunglasses
What was the world like before colourblocking? Nowadays there isn’t one fashion accessory out there that hasn’t been technicoloured up in the past few seasons. First there were clothes (including denim), then shoes and bags. The latest to add to the list are sunglasses.
This summer we are spoilt for choice as a host of brands are launching cool new eyewear ranges that feature more colours than a rainbow. Top of the list is Chanel who has released a collection inspired by pop-art with round and square glasses in yellow, green, red, blue, orange, pink or metallic grey. They have a fun 1960s vibe which you can’t go wrong with.
Givenchy has also a sleek collection this summer (their aviator shades from the runway take pride of place in a campaign starring Gisele Bundchen). That being said I have my eye on a pair of dark purple shades instead– the frame is thick with clean geometric lines giving it a more futuristic look.
The trick to pulling off this look is in the shape – go retro or moden. Stay away from shapes that are too kooky like overly rounded frames or hearts (the latter should be banned entirely!) Neon colours like yellow and pink fit in with summer’s sporty vibe. If you are more conservative, try rich shades of red, orange of purple. That being said, anything goes this summer!!!!
