New York fashion week is due to start today, so I was expecting a month full of fabulous fashion and plenty of gossip. The first juicy piece of news came earlier today as luxe Italian men’s wear brand Ermenegildo Zegna announced the appointment of Stefano Pilati as the new cretaive director for its women’s line, Agnona effective January 1st, 2013.
The Italian designer left Yves Saint Lauren earlier this year, and although reviews for his collections were mixed, I always thought he was very talented. I’ll be interested to see what he does with Agnona (which is known for its quality, rather than its cutting edge designs) as well as the brand’s new couture collection. No doubt his tailoring skills will bring a new sense of modernity to the house.
Looking ahead, there are many more exciting things to come over the next few weeks. Milan Fashion Week is getting a shakeup with the return of German designer Jil Sander to her namesake label. If her recent men’s wear collection is anything to go by, it’s going to be good. Paris sees Raf Simons debut his first ready-to-wear collection for Christian Dior, while Hedi Sliman, an ex-Dior Homme alum, will launch his first women’s line under Saint Laurent (no Yves, thank you). Another brand coming out of a long slumber, is the Tods-owned Schiaparelli, which was the focus of an exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum earlier this year.
