Although the Louis Vuitton x Kusama collaboration officially launched over the summer, the second wave of products are finally hitting the stores. I have never been a monogram person (aside from my vintage Speedys which are great for travel) but I am always interested to see how Marc Jacobs incorporates the work of other artists with the brand’s most iconic symbol. My last favourite Vuitton collaboration was with Richard Prince and I still regret not buying one of the handbags because they have become collectables.
I didn’t know much about Yayoi Kusama as an artist so took in her incredible exhibition at the Whitney Museum in New York. The designer herself sounds eccentric and obsessive to say the least (in 1977 she checked herself into a mental institution where she still lives) but her psychedelic colours and repetitive prints are captivating.
But back to the collection which includes everything from leather goods and shoes to scarves and even a watch. The latest offerings include more bags that incorporate the monogram with Kusama’s signature art works such as infinity nets, trees and pumpkins. The results are super cool with dots magnified in various sizes or covering bags in ripples or waves. This is one I won’t miss out on!
