The fashion world is a fickle one – one day you’re in and the next day you are out. This goes for everything from catwalk trends to must-have handbags. Fortunately there are some brands out there that refuse to give in to the “it” bag phenomenon. Instead they focus on creating beautifully made classics of the future. For me, Tod’s has always been one of these brands.
Tod’s is known for its handcrafted handbags that are not only timeless, but that get better with age. Although I am already a proud owner of their D-bag, I was excited to hear about their latest creation, Sella, which just landed in stores. It’s already been spotted on the arms of stylish celebrities like Cate Blanchett and Miranda Kerr.

The Sella shares similar qualities to the D Bag in that it’s refined and understated. Interestingly the bag takes its inspiration from a dressage (riding) saddle and has a unique curved shape which I find quite modern. The horse riding theme can also be spotted in the matte gold hardware, although thankfully, it doesn’t overwhelm the bag.
As with all Tod’s bags, practicality is key so it’s available in several variations including a shopping bag with a zipper and a more structured version in two sizes.
Things get more fun with the colours which include tan, rust, purple and yellow. Then you have the materials which range from calf leather to python and crocodile. I have my eye on the ponyskin in zebra or leopard print – it’s bang on trend for autumn which is all about different textures.
Take it from me, this is a bag you will wear for a lifetime.
