Ok so I am the first to admit that I was not a fan of the “arm party trend” aka stacking your wrists with so much bling that you look like a gladiator. I do however love the idea of a chic and simple bangle that can take you through season after season. And I am not talking about a generic designer style like Cartier’s Love bracelet. Instead I am always on the lookout for something classic but with a fashion forward twist.
I recently discovered American brand Vita Fede (Italian for “Life” and “Faith”), which is currently available at an exclusive pop up shop at Joyce boutique in Hong Kong. Launched in 2009 by LA based Japanese designer Cynthia Sakai, it combines daring and modern styles with traditional Italian craftsmanship for a luxe look (everything is made in Florence where Dior makes their jewellery).
Sakai likes to subvert classic jewellery styles by playing with materials and looks. Her signature Titan bracelet for example appears classic, but is given a fashion edge with small spike accents. Every season she updates this now iconic style with new finishes and fabrics mixes including leather with gun metal, and rose gold with a black matte finish For Joyce, she has created four limited edition bracelets called “Joyce Edition,” featuring cool colours such as blue and pink contrasted with matte and metallic gold textures.
While I love her bracelets, the rest of the collection is worth a look as well. There are punky double studs in the shape of pyramids or boxes. Tear drops earrings are cut out from gold and attach to the ear like a cuff. More fun are her USB necklaces featuring pendants made from semi precious stones like malachite, which are then strung on a chunky silver chain.
