They say the Swedes do it better. Ok, so it may not apply to everything but we have to admit that we are partial to chic footwear label Gram, which is bang on trend right now considering that fashion cannot get enough of comfortable shoes.
Launched in 2005 from Stockholm – one of the owners Alexis Holm is now based in Hong Kong – the brand is unique in that it creates unique styles that are a sort of a hybrid between trainers and traditional shoes. Each pair is named after its weight in grams which is a clever nod to the brand’s name. Although Gram started out with men’s wear they have since branched into women’s shoes that have become equally popular.
While the design is all about functional, clean lines (hello, it is Scandinavian) there is a cool fashion touch as seen in their choice of fabrics and decorative details like the chunky soles, which are exclusively developed for the brand. Part casual, part dressy, most of the styles will match anything in your wardrobe while still being comfortable.
Each season Gram introduces one or two new styles but the majority of the collection is made up of updated Gram classics in new colours and materials. For autumn/winter expect lots of dark colours (black, green, rust and a sparkle of gold) with materials including embossed leather, waxed suedes and 1000 denier Cordura nylon.
Highlights include the super stylish 430g hybrid sneaker in Racing Green leather and suede while the 380g Racing Green in debossed leather is based on a man’s Derby shoe. It’s also available in a scaled down version for women with a slightly elongated shape.
These shoes were made for walking…
Gram is available at i.t., Harvey Nichols and squarestreet (G/F, 15 Square Street, Sheung Wan) in Hong Kong.
