As the “athleisure” category continues to grow, more and more sportswear brands have started to inject a serious fashion edge into their products, from Nike who collaborated with Sacai to Adidas. Another to add to the list is sneaker brand APL (Athletic Propulsion Labs) which just landed in Hong Kong at Lane Crawford.
Launched in 2009, APL is already infamous in the sports world thanks to their tech innovations and high performance – their basketball trainers were actually banned from the NBA in 2010 as they gave players as unfair advantage. In 2014 the brand released a collection of running shoes which were stocked by high end fashion boutiques. Since then their funky sneakers have become a cult fashion favourite with the likes of the Kardashian sisters and Gwyneth Paltrow.
In terms of look, the collections are definitely stylish with bold colours and interesting design details. What we love however is the supped up technology that goes into each pair. The TechLoom Pro for example features a Propelium midsole technology designed to maximise energy generation. Although its’ design is quite similar to the Nike flyknits, it comes in funky colourways including black and gold.
Another must-have are the Ascend trainers, a favourite with Khloe Kardashian, which is equipped with a compression midsole designed to provide balance and distribute weight evenly. Its design is definitely more unique with details such as a mesh and rubber panels and various options for lacing.
We will definitely be investing in a pair for Fashion Week…
