Expensive sneakers aren’t exactly a new thing in fashion, but the brand that everyone is talking about (including Justin Beiber and P.Diddy) is Los Angeles based Buscemi.
As soon as Buscemi hit the market three years ago people took notice thanks to its stylish designs (evidenced by the best-selling 100mm which includes details inspired by the Hermes Birkin); high price tag (around HK$9,000 per pair); and exclusivity (only 600 pairs were made the first year). It’s no wonder that it quickly become a favourite with rappers and other artists.
What really makes the brand the new beacon of luxury footwear, however, is the craftsmanship behind it. Made in Italy from start to finish, each pair take up to 24 hours to complete thanks to intricate details such as handpainted edges, 18k gold plated hardware and hand sewn leather laces.
The materials are sourced from the best tanneries and include everything from leather to exotics in colours ranging from vibrant red to classic black. All of this combined with styling details such as 18K studs, leather fringing, leather handles and even a padlock and keys, have made Buscemi the ultimate luxury shoe.
While Buscemi found fame with the 100mm, it now includes a range of styles plus more affordable models. For spring must-haves include chic moccasins that incorporate a more sporty element such as a vibram sole which is favoured by marathon runners. For those who still want luxury, there is the Gladiator which is decorated with a leather fringe studded with 18k gold pins while the 125MM comes with an elaborate gold cage around the ankles.
And although the brand is known for it’s men’s shoes, a women’s collection followed three seasons ago after model Jourdan Dunn was spotted wearing a pair. Who says boys have all the fun?
Obnoxiously high quality leather goods – wouldn’t you agree?
