If you worship at the altar of old school minimalists like Calvin Klein and Jil Sander, then chances are you will love clothing label Charlie May. On first glance the brand looks like it was founded in Scandinavia but it is actually the creation of British designer and blogger Charlie May. Most people know May as the founder of well-known blog Girl A La Mode, but her real talent lies in fashion design, hence the launch of her eponymous women’s wear label back in 2011.
The Charlie May look can be summed up as modern and directional with a focus on silhouettes (which tend to be on the voluminous side), fabrications and unique textures. Colours are muted (no surprise there) which allows the shapes and details to really stand out. This season for example she’s primarily used silk, lightweight cashmere and grey marle denim which are worked into structured yet roomy silhouettes such as wide legged trousers and dropped shoulder tops.
Must haves include the white linen tunic with side splits, which is an essential for autumn as well. We’re also loving the grey sweater with voluminous bell shaped sleeves and the wide legged trousers.
