These days Hong Kongers no longer need to trek to Seoul to get their Korean fashion fix thanks to a range of options in the city,  from contemporary brands at concept store I.T to fast fashion at A-Land. The market was at the point of becoming over-saturated – that is until we discovered multi-brand boutique K-Style Lab, which recently opened in Times Square.

J Apostrophe Spring/Summer 2017

K-Style Lab is different for many reasons. For one, it’s the brainchild of a Korean fashion veteran, ex-journalist and fashion executive EJ Kim who has worked for the likes of Elle, Marie Claire and Chanel in Korea. Thanks to EJ’s discerning eye and incredible network, she has been able to bring together a selection of emerging and established labels that focus more on concept and design, while still offering the high-quality Korea is known for. Although the merchandise is curated, there is still plenty to choose from whether you are after minimalist or fashion-forward pieces to streetwear for both men and women. There is also a selection of accessories and beauty products.

Parts Parts Spring /Summer 2017

We also love the fact that each brand is given its own space in the store while the merchandise is displayed alongside images from their recent runway show and some text explaining more about the designer and their philosophy. It’s a fun way to discover a new designer and learn more about them.

While there are over 10 brands to choose from our favourites include Nohke, designed by Jung Misun, which features minimalist separates and deconstructed shirting styles with asymmetric details. Also thinking outside of the box is J Apostrophe, designed by sisters Lee Jiyeon and Lee Jisun, which offers feminine yet avant garde designs including chevron jackets and cotton shirt dresses decorated with ribbon ties. More established brands include Parts Parts which is known for its futuristic neoprene designs using zero waste techniques while Jin Teok is one of Korea’s old guard whose latest collection includes “couture streetwear” such as embellished hoodies and sweatshirts.

K-Style Lab is at Shop No. 401, 4/F, Time Square, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, tel: +852-2555 1135.
